The Commish's Featured Matchup: Steveston Tsunami vs St. Petersburg Nuggets
Anything can happen in a shortened pool week, and with most players available this week for only two NHL games, it'll be a brief skirmish between two of the CCCP's legitimate contenders. GM David's Nuggets are riding high, with just one loss in eight weeks, led by a steaming hot pile of Malkin and a rejuvenated Spezza. Even Todd Bertuzzi is playing at a point-per-game clip recently, which has catapulted the Russian team to the top of the Hrudey division. The last time the Nuggets had a short week, however, they managed to post just 13 points. It will take a huge pre-break burst from the squad to make sure they can rack up another win. On the other side, the Tsunami are having some problems getting a win streak going: Their longest streak this year has been 3 wins in a row, and are coming off an unexpected loss to the lowly Red Barons last week. Leaving 12 goalie points on the bench last week hurt, and the two-headed goalie monster GM Meghan has to deal with won't make things any easier. It'll take a better effort from Vanek - who was a Nugget for all of 20 seconds this summer - and some points from Mike Richards would help too.
This week's going to be quick but painful for someone in the featured match. The Commish believes the Nuggets are just on too much of a roll to stop right now, and will beat the Tsunami by a single point: 18-17.
Commissioner's prediction record: 8-7
